Meet the 2024 Winner: Tania Janaudis-Ferreira, BSc(PT), MSc, PhD
Tania Janaudis-Ferreira is an Associate Professor with the School of Physical Therapy at McGill University and a Scientist with the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre in Montreal, Canada. She co-directs the Pulmonary Rehabilitation (PR) and Integrated Care of Chronic Respiratory Disease Fellowship Program at McGill University.
She has been a member of the ATS PR Assembly since 2018. In 2020, she joined the ATS PR Assembly Web Committee and the Working Group on Self-Management in Respiratory Diseases. This year (2024), she is the chair of the PR Program Committee of the 2025 ATS International Conference. Dr. Janaudis-Ferreira has participated four times in the ATS mentorship program of the PR Assembly as a mentor.
This year, she was the co-chair of the 2024 Scientific Planning Committee of the Canadian Respiratory Conference. She has also contributed to different activities within the European Respiratory Society (ERS) and the European Society of Organ Transplantation (ESOT). She is the co-founder and co-chair of the Canadian Network for Rehabilitation and Exercise for Solid Organ Transplant Optimal Recovery (CAN-RESTORE).
The overarching goal of her research program is to improve rehabilitation care and outcomes in individuals with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and solid organ transplant candidates and recipients. Her research achievements and leadership abilities have allowed her to build collaborations with national and international universities, non-profit organizations, tech companies, and people with lived experience. Her vision aims to eliminate disparities and provide inclusive and accessible solutions for all patients, promoting equal opportunities for rehabilitation outcomes.
Description:
This award is given to a PR Assembly member (primary or secondary) who has recognized scientific contribution(s) to the principles and practice of pulmonary rehabilitation and demonstrated meaningful contribution(s) to the PR Assembly activities. Relevant research contributions may include but are not limited to: program structure, program content, outcomes or outcome measures, skeletal muscle dysfunction, exercise training, adjuncts to exercise training, mechanisms underlying benefits of PR, education, self- management, health-enhancing behavior change, social or psychological support, knowledge translation and program accreditation. Applicants may have previously received an Early Career Research Achievement Award.
Criteria:
At time of submission nominees must be a maximum of 15 years from date of highest research degree, or, if no research degree, from date of first faculty appointment (career disruption will be considered).Proposers must sub This a mit a nomination package including:
- Details and confirmation of the nominee’s status as a primary or secondary member of the PR Assembly
- Date of conferral of doctoral level degree
- Date of first faculty appointment (if applicable)
- A one page letter from a primary member of the Assembly describing the nominee’s contributions (including to the Assembly/ATS) and why the award is appropriate
- The nominee’s curriculum vitae, including details of career disruption where relevant.
Applications will be scored on the basis of the details provided in the submitted nomination.
Awards will only be given where suitable candidates are nominated.
