ATS International Trainee & MECOR Program Scholarships (ITS)

The ATS International Health and Membership Committees are delighted to introduce the ATS International Trainee Scholarships (ITS), aimed at offering scholarship support to international trainees to assist their attendance at the ATS International Conference.

Award Components: Each ITS award package encompasses several valuable components, ensuring a comprehensive experience for recipients.

35 abstracts will be chosen from ATS assemblies, representing low-, middle-, and high-income countries.

Recognition and Benefits

  • Certificate of Achievement: A certificate of achievement is presented to recognize their outstanding accomplishments.
  • Cash Scholarship: Recipients are granted a cash scholarship amount, the value of which is determined based on their country of origin.
  • Complimentary Registration: This comprehensive award package also includes complimentary registration for the ATS International Conference.
  • ATS In-Training Membership: A one-year ATS In-Training Membership fee is included.
  • Existing ATS Members: For those who are already active ATS Members, an additional year of membership will be seamlessly added to their current membership period.

Poster Colloquium and Discussion

The ATS International Scholars Poster Colloquium showcases the outstanding work of talented trainees who have earned recognition through the International Trainee Scholarship. Recipients of this award will enjoy an exclusive opportunity to present their abstract at the International Scholars Poster Colloquium and actively engage in a discussion session held on a Saturday, May 17 from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.mIt is mandatory for all awardees to be present at the Poster Colloquium and actively participate throughout the entire session.

Each awardee will be allotted 5 minutes for their presentation, including 3 minutes for their abstract and 2 minutes for Q&A.

8:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. – Posters display and discussion.

8:30 a.m. to 8:55 a.m. – Opening Remarks

8:30 a.m. to 8:40 a.m. – International Health Committee Chairs Remarks

8:45 a.m. to 8:55 a.m. – ATS Officers

8:55 a.m. to 10:20 a.m. – Awardees Presentations

10:15 a.m. to 10:35 a.m. – Break

10:35 a.m. to 12:10 p.m. – Awardees Presentations

12:10 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. - Posters display and discussion

1:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. – Certificates distribution

Financial Support and Conference Expenses

It is crucial to emphasize that the primary purpose of each scholarship is to provide financial assistance to cover the expenses associated with attending the ATS International Conference. This support encompasses costs related to flights, accommodations, as well as daily expenses, including meals and local transportation.

The award amount is set at US$ 1,700 for awardees from low and middle-income countries and US$ 1,400 for awardees from high-income countries. Recipients will receive the award in the form of a check that can be cashed during the conference.

Goals and Objectives

The ATS International Trainee Scholarship Awards are designed to achieve several key goals:

  1. Clinical Exposure: Provide essential financial support, enabling trainees to attend the ATS International Conference, where they will be exposed to cutting-edge clinical research and the practice of pulmonary, critical care, and sleep medicine.

  2. Research Presentation: Offer international trainees from outside the United States a valuable platform to present their research during the ATS International Conference.

  3. Membership and Participation: Foster interest in and encourage active membership and participation within the ATS, particularly within their respective assemblies.

  4. Scientific Interaction: Create opportunities for meaningful interactions between international trainees and other scientists within their specific areas of research.

  5. Conference Experience: Provide access to all additional activities and opportunities that the ATS International Conference has to offer, enhancing the overall experience for scholarship recipients.

Eligibility

To be eligible for an ITS Award, the following conditions must be met:

  • Applicant is a non-U.S. citizen.
  • Aplicant does not presently reside in the United States.
  • Applicant is an author on an abstract accepted for presentation at the International Conference.
  • Applicant's work within the abstract was completed at an institution outside the United States.
  • Applicant is currently a trainee at a program located outside the United States.
  • Applicant must attend the ATS International Conference and present their abstract at the International Scholars Poster Colloquium.
  • Applicant may have scientific abstract or a case report accepted to the International Conference (late breaking abstracts will not be considered).

Application and Selection Process

Applications are completed through the ATS International Conference abstract submission process. If criteria described above can be met by the applicant, please proceed to check the box in the Affirmations section of the online submission program.

ATS grants 35 International Trainee Scholarships to deserving individuals. ATS places a strong emphasis on diversity and inclusion, and the selection of awardees takes into consideration both the abstract scores provided by the Assemblies and the geographical representation, encompassing low, middle, and high-income countries.

Timeline

Abstract authors whose abstracts are selected to receive a scholarship will be notified in February via email.
