ASSEMBLIES 7 ALL ABOUT ASSEMBLIES Program Committee • The Program Committee Chair-Elect is elected by the assembly’s members who cast their votes online for their preferred candidates. The Program Committee Chair-Elect is a one-year term. • The Program Committee Chair-Elect then transitions to Program Committee Chair. • Program Committees comprise a chair, chair-elect and members appointed by the Program Committee Chair-Elect. • The number of members appointed should not exceed 30. Nominating Committee (one year term) • The Nominating Committee Chair is appointed by the Assembly Chair. • The Nominating Committee comprises a chair and three members. • Two members of the Nominating Committee are elected by the assembly’s members, who cast their votes online for their preferred candidates. The third member is an international member appointed by the Assembly Chair. Web Director (two year term) The Web Director is appointed by the Assembly Chair. The Web Director is responsible for: • Reviewing the assembly’s website; • Updating content as needed and proposes new content; and • Organizing all website activities, including journal clubs, forums, podcasts and quick hits. The Web Director serves as a member of the ATS Web Editorial Board and is a member of the assembly’s Executive Committee. Project Committees • Project committees are composed of ATS members whose projects have been approved by the Program Review Subcommittee and the ATS Board of Directors. Their purpose is to develop ATS official documents or other projects that do not end in an ATS official document. Working Groups Assemblies can choose to form working groups under the purview and approval of the current Assembly Chair. Working groups should include a minimum of five assembly members, but be no larger than twelve. Working Groups have a 2 year Maximum term and cannot be renewed once term is complete and goals have been met. The goal of working groups is to: • Facilitate effective collaboration between Assembly Executive Committees and assembly members in a particular area within the assembly; • To gain knowledge in a specific topic area under an Assembly; • Identify learning gaps in specific disease categories; and • Assess assembly membership needs. Interest Group An Interest Group of the American Thoracic Society is defined as a community of ATS members (typically between 15-50) and attendees at the ATS International Conference with an interest in networking and advancing a specific area of knowledge, health care or research initiative, or technology within the areas of Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine. Interest groups must be affiliated with a specific ATS Assembly. Visit the Assemblies area of the ATS website for more information about Interest Groups and the application and review process.
